Oh, Rhode Island. You may be small, but you sure are beautiful. I’ve always wondered if my love for the ocean stems from the fact that I was born in Rhode Island. I don’t visit Rhode Island often, but when I do, it’s usually Newport as a day trip from Boston. And if there’s anything you must see if you have a day in Newport, it’s the famous Cliff Walk.
Cliff Walk gives you the best of both worlds: a relaxing stroll by the ocean, and a view of Newport’s most opulent mansions. Begin your walk at Forty Steps, a grand staircase that leads you right down to the water. There’s plenty of parking, but be sure to get there early as it can get extremely crowded.
From Forty Steps, follow the path along the coast and begin exploring! Along the way you’ll pass by some notable attractions such as The Breakers. In the springtime, there’s also a beautiful, vast field of daffodils on the Salve Regina University campus. Don’t worry, no flowers were harmed in the making of this photo!
Newport’s nautical vibes inspired me to wear this striped ensemble. I’m loving the bell sleeves on this Zara top. The best part about it is that the material is so flowy, which feels amazing against the ocean breeze! Everything else I’m wearing has been on repeat. Seriously, if you don’t own a pair of stretchy high-waisted white jeans (they feel like leggings and go with everything!), these Steve Madden mules, and a pair of handy sunglasses, it’s time to get some! 😉 They’ll become staples in your wardrobe.
Since New England weather is unpredictable, I recommend wearing layers. Here I’m wearing a Mackage trench coat that I got at TJ Maxx. My pink Zac Posen bag is also from TJ Maxx! I love shopping there because you never know what treasures you will find for a steal.
One day I’ll have to return and actually visit the mansions, downtown, beaches, and nearby fruit and flower farms. But for now, it brings a smile to my face knowing that Cliff Walk will always be there to welcome me back.
