Central Park is always swarming with people, but especially in the springtime when the cherry blossoms begin budding. It’s one of my favorite times of the year in New York — the eager anticipation as we wait for the first signs of spring, the faint floral smell in the air, and the sun finally peeking out as us again as we move on from winter. There’s nothing quite like it.
With a park as large as Central Park, one could spend hours wandering around. And while there are flowers everywhere, here are a few of my favorite spots with the highest concentration of cherry blossoms:
Loeb Boathouse
Not only can you row boats and grab a bite to eat here, Loeb Boathouse (mid park at 74th St) also has a huge cluster of cherry blossom trees right nearby! There’s nothing more magical than twirling underneath the cherry blossom trees on sunny spring day.
Cherry Hill
This section of the park is called Cherry Hill for a reason! Located just west of Bethesda Fountain (mid park at 72nd St), Cherry Hill is absolutely packed so get there early. When we shot there, there were 3 brides doing shoots in their wedding gowns. Full glam squad, lighting directors, and everything. It was hilarious but also I can only imagine how beautiful the photos will turn out!
There are also numerous other places to see the blossoms between 72nd and 96th Streets, notably around the reservoir, Bridle Path at 90th Street, and Pilgrim Hill.
To get the full cherry blossom experience in NYC, be sure to check out the Sakura Matsuri Festival at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden!
