One of the best things about London is all the different day trips you can take. Oxford, Windsor Castle, Blenheim Palace… you name it. But perhaps the most popular spot to visit is Stonehenge, a prehistoric monument and designated UNESCO Heritage Site located just under 2 hours away from London. And even better, tag on a trip to Bath as well for a journey back in time!
Stonehenge and Bath are easily accessible by car, train, or tour bus. Since I was visiting London for only a few days, I opted to take a tour bus for convenience. There are plenty of companies that do this, but if you want to get the full Stonehenge experience, I highly recommend booking a private tour at dawn or dusk, which lets you go up close to the monument and explore the stones! These tickets sell out very quickly so planning in advance is the way to go. I got the regular tickets which were still great, but the other experience would’ve been a lot more memorable.
Now, Bath… If you were to have asked me where in the UK I wanted to visit, this city would not have been on the list. However, I’m SO glad I went. First of all, did you know that a lot of Bridgerton scenes were filmed here? I may or may not have had a fangirl moment when I recognized a few of the locations. Second, this city is just so darn cute! It’s calm, charming, and incredibly historic. The architecture is absolutely stunning — I spent a few hours just walking around and soaking it all in.
Of course, you must stop by the Roman Baths, which are such an important part of the city’s history. Other iconic spots to see are the Royal Crescent, The Circus, Pulteney Bridge, and Bath Abbey. Bath is super walkable so you can definitely hit up all these places in a day. Be sure to take some food breaks and check out Sally Lunn’s for afternoon tea and Swoon Gelato for delicious ice cream!
I love how within just a few hours, you can find yourself outside of London and transported to a whole different era. It’s mind-blowing just how old some of these cities and monuments are — really puts things into perspective. Stay tuned for the next part of this mini London series, one of my favorite destinations yet: the Cotswolds!
